After living in Charlottesville for almost 20 years, it might be surprising to know that I have never visited Ash Lawn-Highland, the home of President James Monroe. Being a history nerd (especially colonial history) and not knowing much about President Monroe, my mom and I visited it last weekend. Maybe it was the dreamy fog for pictures or entertaining tour guide, but we had a great time. The tour of the home is about 30 minutes and since it's not as nearly as large as Mr. Jefferson's mansion, you learn a lot about what he accomplished as a politician at all levels of government. I highly recommend a visit to anyone in the area.
